Reeses Pieces Chocolate Loaf Cake

First off I don't know if I should call this a loaf cake or bread.  I made it in a 9x5 loaf pan.  Like I use for my banana bread and zucchini bread.  When I texted my girl friend I was baking chocolate bread she goes hmmm never tried that?  Then my husband said something very similar but looking at me like I'm a crazy woman.  Call it what you will because it was delectable! Think one of those big chocolaty Costco muffins but homemade.

The weekends at our house are pretty mellow and that's when I normally do my baking.  Mario can help distract our youngest and I can fill the house with yummy smells.  Gia has what I call a horrible cold right now, snot running out her nose, watery eyes, no appetite!  I hate seeing my girls like this.  She is also sleeping terrible so its just NO fun!

As I posted on Instagram we have a humongous amount of left over Halloween candy.  Seeing as we paid a small fortune for it all I don't want to throw it out, just yet.  So I decided to try and incorporate some of it in to recipes.  This one I used Reeses Pieces but you could easily substitute for cut up Reeses Cups, Heath, or Butterfinger Bars!  Its has endless possibilities for your sweet tooth!

Here is what I used:  350 pre-heated oven

2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
4 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tspn salt
1/2 tspn vanilla
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup oil
7 mini bags of Reeses candies about half a cup (you can add more if you wish)

Sift your dry ingredients together in large bowl.  In a medium bowl mix your egg, vanilla, buttermilk and oil.  Then add that to your dry bowl and mix completely. After that fold in Reeses Pieces, which I had tossed in about of Tablespoon of flour.  To insure that they wouldn't sink to the bottom of pan.

Grease your baking pan.  I also lined the bottom of mine with parchment paper and greased that too.  Carefully scoop your chocolate mix into pan and spread out evenly.

I baked mine on the convection setting at 350 for 40 mins then covered the top with foil and cooked for another 25 minutes.  Test the loaf cake with a toothpick, when it comes out clean the loaf is done.  Let it cool for about 10 minutes and then take it out of pan to cool completely.

I love baking for my family and myself.  Sometimes trying new recipes can be a good thing, or a big flop! This chocolate dish was definitely a good one!  Please try out and let me know what you think.
Much love, Linzi
